The Brazilian Association of Hematology, Hemotherapy and Cell Therapy (ABHH) was born from the merger of the Brazilian Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy (SBHH) and the Brazilian College of Hematology (CBH). Today, the institution has more than 5 thousand members, after being the first combination of associations in the country.
ABHH's mission is to represent the community of professionals in the area of hematology, hemotherapy, and cell therapy. In addition, it also aims to promote, guide, and defend policies and measures that determine ethics, recognition, dignity, and appreciation of the specialty; value quality and equity in the treatment of patients and specialty services; guarantee technical and educational programs for younger professionals to guide quality training and encourage adequate entry into the labor market; attract new professionals to the specialty; and stimulate multidisciplinarity in the development of professionals in the area as a way of support joint initiatives for constant improvement in teaching, care, and research in the areas involved.
Since 2021, ABHH has included in its mission the concept of promoting Equity, defined as the guarantee that equality is achieved, taking into account the specific needs of each person. Still in this sense, the Association acts assertively to provide technical-scientific support for the incorporation of new technologies in public and private health systems, a movement that is led by the Committee on Access to Medicines in coalition with the other technical groups that make up the Association.
Its largest annual event, the Brazilian Congress of Hematology, Hemotherapy and Cell Therapy (HEMO), brings together specialists from all over the world, in 4 days of intense scientific programming and exhibition of technological innovations, with HEMO being the third largest congress of the specialty in the world and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
